Diving in Iceland – Silfra Diving Day Tour – Difficulty: ⅘ Rating: Difficult (PADI® license required)
If you’re looking for a unique freshwater diving experience like you’ve never experienced before, this is the adventure for you. Diving in Iceland deserves it’s place right at the top of the world’s most enchanting dive locations and this tour will show you exactly why.
Þingvellir National Park (Thingvellir) is the birthplace of the modern system of government in place in Iceland today. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the park sits on top of the European and American continental plates. The fissure, formed as a result of the plates drifting apart, creates a deep ravine filled with freshwater, filtered by the volcanic rock to form the purest water you can ever dive in.
This diving in Iceland – Silfra tour offers you an opportunity to explore this uncharted frontier by diving down to a depth of 18m (although the ravine is 40m deep in places). The depth restriction is a park stipulation, but doesn’t take anything away from the wonders in the deep that await you.
Your dives will take you on an exploration of the following parts of the Silfra fissure:
There is a surprise at every turn of this dive and you witness and experience spectacular scenery that you can’t see anywhere else but here.
A once in a lifetime opportunity awaits you and if you’ve dived anywhere else before, there’s no way you can visit Iceland and leave without taking the diving in Silfra tour if you’re a diver. Challenging and rewarding at the same time, find out why hundreds of divers rank Silfra as one of the best diving locations on this planet. Book your place today.
This breathtaking scuba diving in Iceland tour is available throughout the year, both during the summer and winter months. Popular in the summer because the water is slightly warmer, diehard divers looking for a rewarding challenge won’t be put off by the temperature.
This adventure tour is rated as Challenging. Only divers with a PADI® license will be allowed to participate due to the inherent challenges of the activity. Must have dived within the last 2 years. Please bring dry suit certification and PADI® certificates with you. If you don’t have a Drysuit Certification, you must have at least 10 logged in drysuit dives in a logbook within the last 2 years.
If you’re a diver with no drysuit experience, we have a course you can take to get certified before going on the Silfra Diving Day Tour. The course includes one day training and one day Silfra diving all packed into one tour!
The tour is about 7 hours in duration, point to point, with two dives planned (2 shorter dives in the summer, 1 longer dive in the winter due to temperatures). Pick up from your nearest pickup point in Reykjavík is available. All divers must be 18 years or over and must bring a PADI® certificate or equivalent.

You'll be happy to know this dive didn't fail to WOW me! I have dived in over 20 locations worldwide, but the Silfra was something else. Excellent guides and well organised by your team.
Hey Nature Kicks, thanks for your testimonial request. Well, all I can say is what a superbly well organised dive with so much to take in. 3 of us went diving and we were all fortunate enough to touch the plates and even take pictures. Only if the water was a little more clearer on the day. Silfra and Nature Kicks are well recommended!!
I've never seen tectonic plates let alone touching two of them. I would recommend this dive to anyone as it is a moderate dive in difficulty at its core, but simply fantastic!! I will be booking more tours with you again, and probably do this one the next time I go to Iceland.
You will find the answers to some of the commonly asked questions about our Diving in Iceland – Deep Blue Tectonic Tour.

What Are The Chances of Getting Wet on This Trip?
We believe we have the best dry suits available in the business. They are designed to keep you warm but more importantly dry too. Due to fitting problems you may have some water may get in, however, the dry suit is also constructed in such a way that it will keep you warm even when wet. Short answer, you are unlikely to get wet. On the off chance you do please come prepared with a change of clothes.
How Good is Visibility Underwater?
Some of the best in the world. The water in Silfra is so clear that in winter you can expect 40 to 60 metres visibility. This gets even better in the summer with clear skies when you can expect 85 to 100 meters visibility. When we say Silfra is phenomenal we mean every word.
Note: It goes without saying, you must be able to swim on this tour and feel comfortable in water. Confident swimmers with a PADI® license may book this tour. If not, the alternative is snorkeling which will be an enjoyable experience for you.
