Fitness and health centres have flourished on the back of that section of society that has become health conscious. They are by no means a majority as obesity has been growing over the years with lack of exercise and poor diet two of the main factors.
Centres offer a range of equipment and trained fitness personnel. The environment is usually welcoming with places to relax after a workout, a real place to make new friends.
Different ways to use your local outdoors for a workout
Natural Environment Has much to Offer
However, the local outdoors arguably offers far more. Fitness centres offer repetitive and often boring workouts which cannot bear comparison with some of the wonderful natural environment that many can enjoy. People living in large cities may have less opportunity to enjoy the local outdoors though parks feature regularly in most of them.
Those with easy access to the countryside however have a far cheaper way to workout than by paying a monthly subscription to the local health centre. Exercise needs to be fun. It is the best way to get people to commit to exercise regularly, even if it just begins with walking rather than always using the car.
Indoors, people enjoy dancing, but even that is not as satisfying as being out in the fresh air, perhaps hiking over the hills and walking through forests. Cycling is excellent exercise and still allows riders to enjoy the surroundings.
In all these cases, exercising does not need to be a solitary process. Real exercise does involve more than a casual stroll catching up on gossip. However a long walk should not be too tiring so that people cannot enjoy each other’s company in local outdoors workout.
The local outdoors environment dictates the type of exercise that people can enjoy. Those that are close to the coast or who have local rivers or lakes can swim in the warm seasons, especially in the middle of summer.
With time and regular exercise everyone becomes fitter. It applies equally well to those past middle age as to the young. Outdoor workouts are the real way to enjoy life and reach a fitness level that truly makes a difference.
